1 This capital case involves a series of murders and sexual assaults that occurred in Shasta County in the 1980s. In 1989, a jury found Robert Edward Maury guilty of various offenses, among which included three counts of first degree murder (Pen. Code, § 187)1 and forcible rape (former § 261, subd.
