CALIFORNIA, et al., Defendants. 12 Proposed intervenors’ request to intervene as of right under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 24(a)(2) is denied. Dkt. No. 75. Permissive intervention under Rule 24(b) is granted for Malak Afaneh, Zaid Yousef, Muki Barkan, Berkeley Law Student #1, Isaac Tragarz, and UCB Graduate Student #1, subject to the ensuing conditions. Most of the proposed intervenors have no current affiliation with the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), and so do not qualify for intervention as of right. See Cal. Dep’t of Toxic Substances Ctrl. v. Jim Dobbas, Inc., 54 F.4th 1078, 1088 (9th Cir. 2022) (“Rule 24(a)(2) requires the outsider to show that (1) it has a significant protectable interest as to the property or transaction that is the subject of the action[.]”). …
