ORDER DENYING PLAINTIFF’S MOTION FOR SUMMARY JUDGMENT AND GRANTING DEFENDANT’S MOTION FOR SUMMARY JUDGMENT
The parties have filed cross-motions for summary judgment in this Social Security appeal. Plaintiff Alonzo Phillips suffers from a variety of impairments and believes that the Administrative Law Judge (“ALJ”) erred in several respects. Substantial evidence supports the ALJ’s decision, however, and so the plaintiffs motion is DENIED and defendant’s motion is GRANTED.
BACKGROUND
1. PROCEDURAL HISTORY
On May 14, 2010, Phillips filed an application for Supplemental Social Security Income (“SSI”) under Title XVI of the Social Security Act. Administrative Record (“AR”) 20. His application was denied initially and again on reconsideration. AR 77-81, 84-89. Phillips requested a hearing and appeared before an ALJ on August 3, 2011. AR 91, 111. During this hearing, the ALJ rescheduled the hearing date so Phillips could obtain representation. AR 72. Phillips retained an attorney and a second SSI hearing was held on November 2, 2011.
