19 On March 25, 2024, Petitioner Anthony Gooden, proceeding pro se, filed 20 a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus by a Person in State Custody pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. The Court issues this Order to Show Cause directed to Petitioner because the face of the Petition suggests that he has failed to state a cognizable claim on federal habeas review. I. Procedural History and Petitioner’s Contentions In August 2013, Petitioner pleaded guilty in San Bernardino County Superior Court to first-degree murder and admitted that he personally used a firearm. [See Dkt. No. 1 at 9.] He was sentenced to 35 years to life in state prison. [See id.] He did not appeal.
