I. Introduction

Petitioner is a state prisoner, proceeding without counsel, with an application for a writ of

habeas corpus pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. Petitioner challenges his 2012 conviction for

numerous sex offenses involving his stepdaughter and for child pornography. Petitioner was

sentenced to 85 years-to-life plus 13 years in state prison. Petitioner claims the following: denial

of his right to a speedy trial (ground 2); denial of the right to an impartial jury (ground 3); lack of

confrontation by all witnesses (ground 4); not all favorable witnesses to the defense were
