Nazir Hamid brings this suit under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act based on Metropolitan Life Insurance’s refusal to pay him short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) income benefits under his employment benefits plan. Hamid applied for STD and LTD benefits based on chronic pain in his face and head that he says prevents him from working his job as a mortgage loan officer at Bank of America. His medical records reflect that his pain began in the early 2000s, that it became increasingly severe around 2016, and that it became debilitating in 2018, forcing him to stop working in October of that year.
