11 Defendant. 12 Plaintiff Social Positioning Input Systems LLC (“SPIS”) initiated this patent infringement lawsuit against Defendant Geozilla Inc. on September 13, 2021. See Dkt. No. 1. Pending before the Court is Plaintiff’s Motion for Substitute Service. See Dkt. No. 14. For the reasons explained below, the Court GRANTS Plaintiff’s Motion. Under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 4(e)(1), an individual may be served by “following state law for serving a summons in an action brought in courts of general jurisdiction in the state where the district court is located or where service is made.” Fed. R. Civ. P. 4(e)(1). California law generally permits substitute service on a defendant if the plaintiff, acting with “reasonable diligence,” cannot complete personal service. …
