About Caselegis
We're building the legal research tool we wish existed. Fast, modern, affordable, and focused on California.
Our mission
Make California case law research accessible to every legal professional, regardless of budget or firm size.
Why we care
Court opinions are public domain government works. Access to the law should not cost hundreds of dollars a month.
Our approach
We add value through citation analysis, bad law detection, and modern search technology, not by locking up public data.
The problem we're solving
Traditional legal research tools charge hundreds of dollars per month, pricing that puts comprehensive case law access out of reach for solo practitioners, small firms, law students, and public interest attorneys.
Meanwhile, court opinions are public domain government works. They belong to everyone. We built Caselegis to make California case law searchable, with modern tools like bad law detection and citation analysis, at a price that makes sense.
What we cover
Our case law data is sourced from official court records and public domain government publications, including recent opinions directly from the California Courts website.
We currently cover the California Supreme Court, all six Districts of the Court of Appeal, and federal courts in California including the 9th Circuit and all four District Courts.
How we add value
We build on top of public domain data with citation network analysis, bad law detection, full-text search with relevance ranking, and AI-powered research tools. Our goal is to build the best California legal research experience possible.
